The art career of Stephanie Birdsall began early when she completed her first oil painting at the age of twelve; she has kept that passion into the present. Today she works in oils and pastels because they afford her a limitless range of colors and textures in which to create landscapes and still life.

Stephanie's formal education was varied and substantial, but mostly, to her, exciting. It includes studies at the City and Guilds of London Art School in England from 1972 - 1976; and an art major at Rhodes College at Memphis and the University of Georgia. Stephanie has been fortunate to study under several top artists including: Doug Dawson, Albert Handel, and Ramon Kelly. Her training blends naturalistic and impressionistic styles with a solid foundation in drawing, which is evident in her work. She has exhibited at the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London, England. Her work has garnered recognition and awards in national and international juried exhibitions. Among the awards she has received are Best in Show at the Bridgeport Museum of Arts and Science, the Daniel Smith Award and the Grumbacher Gold Medallion Award.

Stephanie grew up in Atlanta, Georgia. Her life's journey has taken her to many locals, providing her with many unique and inspiring landscapes to behold and the challenges to translate to canvas her feelings about what she saw using paint and pastel. Upon her return to the United States from her studies in Europe, she lived in Westport, Connecticut; Atlanta, Georgia; La Jolla, California; Durango, Colorado: and four years ago she moved to Naples, Florida. Having lived in such a variety of spectacular natural environments, she has been inspired to portray the world in its many forms.

When not traveling on location to paint plein air, Ms. Birdsall spends her time working and teaching in her studio and gallery by the waterfront of Naples Harbor. Teaching painting privately and in groups over the past ten years has given her the opportunity to share both the dramatic and subtle ways that art contributes meaning to our lives.

Stephanie holds signature membership in the Pastel Society of Connecticut and the Plein Air Society of Florida and is a member of the Pastel Society of America.

Her love affair with painting is well expressed by her words:
"I am constantly inspired by the beauty of this world; each moment is precious, infused with feeling and worthy of recording. I paint the moment. The instant a subject captures my emotion; it is etched in my mind. Whether I am plein air painting or in my studio, I work to convey the feeling of the moment. My life and soul are dedicated to art and I have been blessed with the freedom to live my life as an artist. There has never been anything else I wanted to be or do."
